Easier and More Powerful Scheduling in
Much-Improved Db Maint 4.0
LAN Assistans &
Konsulting AB today announced the release of Db Maint 4.0, a maintenance
program for SQL Server, with immediate availability. New features in version
4.0 of Db Maint include easier and more powerful scheduling, copying, archiving
and compression of backup files, and test-restore and log shipping. Db Maint
maintains, preserves and monitors Microsoft SQL Server installations and its
data.
Db
Maint is a maintenance tool for MS SQL Server installations. Db Maint
facilitates database maintenance, improves and monitors SQL Server performance
and significantly reduces the risks of losing business critical data. Functions
include safe and easy backup, reorganization, and health check with advanced logging,
presentation, and notification options. In addition, Db Maint includes monitoring
of performance counters.
The new and much-improved Db
Maint version 4.0 offers several major new features. The scheduling has been
reworked in order to increase flexibility and to make Db Maint easier to use
and understand. Also, instead of doing append to backup devices, Db Maint now
creates a new backup device each time a backup is performed. This allows for
features such as test restore, log shipping, compression, copying and archiving
of backups.
The client application has
been enhanced with a number of useful dialogs, including checking of
fragmentation level, mapping users to logins after transferring databases, and
detailed space usage information. The user-defined command features allow users
to add their own context-sensitive commands to the client. Db Maint comes
pre-configured with over 50 user-defined commands. Other much asked-for
enhancements are support for differential backup and email notification using
SMTP.
Db Maint for MSDE
With the release of Db Maint 4.0, there is now also a "Db Maint for
MSDE" version available. It has the same features as the regular Db Maint,
will only run on MSDE 1.0 and MSDE 2000 and has a substantially lower price
than the regular Db Maint.
