Performance Viewer

This pane presents the performance statistics information saved by the Db Maint server (dbm.exe). In order to have any performance statistics, you must:

  1. Select a database in the Server properties dialog.

  2. Create a task including Collect performance information, which actually collects the performance statistics.

Information presented here is the information logged to the Db Maint tables. Use Windows Performance Monitor if you want to look at the current statistics.

Right-click the Performance monitor folder and select View chart to replace the left pane (which normally show the Db Maint log) with the Db Maint performance monitor diagram.

Select counters

You first have to the select the counters to display in the diagram. Expand the Performance monitor folder, right-click the counters you want to display in the diagram and select Add.

View Average

An average will be displays for the selected period. For instance, you want to see the daily load for a certain period.

Select the counters to display, the period, and what average (day, week, month or year) you want to display. The x-axis resolution is automatically selected for you.

View Interval

Choose the selected period.

Choose if you want to view by hour, date, month or year.

The counters that you have selected are shown here. Right-click and select “Remove” if you don’t want that counter value in the “View” tab anymore.

Exclude frame

You can exclude a range of hours for selected days. You might, for instance, want to exclude the time span for which batch processing occurs.

You can right click anywhere in the graph and copy the values to the clipboard. This can be useful if you want to paste the values into some other program for analysis (for instance Microsoft Excel).

You can also select the type of graph to be displayed (“Graph”).
