New Backup Device

Note that you do not create backup devices with Db Maint as of version 4.0. The backup devices are created when the backup operation is performed.

Name

Enter the name for the new backup device.

Location

Enter the physical name for the backup device. This can be:

• A local path.

• An UNC name. The SQL Server service must have read/write permissions to the share and directory. An UNC name will not work if SQL Server runs under the LocalSystem account.

• Name of an installed tape device.

Type

Specifies the type: disk or tape.

Skip Headers (tape only)

Specifies that ANSI tape labels should be ignored (SKIP). See SQL Server Books Online, sp_addumpdevice, for further information.
